One name, three places
Search “Morrocroft” in Charlotte and three distinct places appear: Morrocroft Estates, Morrocroft Village, and Morrocroft Farms. The confusion is understandable — all three take their name from the same source, the Morrocroft farm assembled by Governor Cameron Morrison in the 1920s on what was then countryside well south of the city.
Morrocroft Village is the mixed-use portion: offices, service retail, dining, and residential addresses arranged along Morrocroft Lane near Sharon Road, serving the daily needs of the surrounding SouthPark neighborhoods. It is not gated, not a homeowners association, and not part of Morrocroft Estates.
Why the distinction matters to buyers
Listings, tax records, and third-party portals sometimes blur the three names, which can make a property look like it sits inside the gate when it does not — or the reverse. The shared history
Cameron Morrison, North Carolina’s governor from 1921 to 1925, built Morrocroft as a working estate and country house. Morrocroft Village is a specialty retail centre of roughly 119,000 square feet of leasable space, built in 1998 and managed by National Real Estate Management. A full-service Harris Teeter anchors it, with Crate & Barrel among the larger specialty tenants, alongside menswear, service retail, personal care, casual dining, and an ABC store. Where Morrocroft Village is and how to reach it
The centre sits at the Colony Road and Carnegie Boulevard corner of the Morrocroft development in SouthPark, a short drive from SouthPark Mall, Phillips Place, and the Fairview Road corridor. It is surface-parked and reached by car, with the gated entrance to Morrocroft Estates a few minutes away on separate streets. The other Morrocroft addresses
Retail is only one part of the name. The Morrocroft Professional Center and Morrocroft Centre are the medical and Class A office components of the same master plan, and Morrocroft Place is a cooperative residential community on Richardson Drive that is often mistaken for an apartment complex. All of them trace back to Governor Cameron Morrison’s Morrocroft farm.
