Schools data methodology

Every distance, drive time, and admissions date published in the Morrocroft Estates schools comparison, explained: the origin point, the routing assumptions, how calendars are generalized, and where each figure comes from.

Methodology

How these figures are calculated and sourced.

Origin point

Every distance and drive time is measured from a single fixed origin: the manned entrance gate to Morrocroft Estates on Sharon Road in Charlotte, NC 28211. Individual homes inside the community sit within roughly half a mile of that gate, so figures vary by about one minute depending on the street.

Distance

Distance is stated in driving miles along the shortest practical surface route to each campus’s main entrance — not straight-line distance. Values are rounded to one decimal place. Where a school has multiple campuses, the campus serving the grade band shown is used.

Drive time

Drive times represent typical off-peak conditions on the same route, rounded to the nearest whole minute. They exclude carpool queueing at the campus. During the 7:30 to 8:15 a.m. school-run window, add roughly forty to sixty percent on the Providence, Sardis, and Fairview corridors; Sharon Road departures toward Carmel are less affected.

Admissions calendar

Application-open, deadline, and decision windows describe each school’s published pattern for the standard entry points, generalized to the month rather than a specific date, because those dates shift by a week or two each year. Schools listed as rolling review applications continuously as space allows. Public schools are shown as rolling because attendance is by residential assignment rather than application. The per-school FAQ cards set out each timeline in full.

Enrollment steps

The steps column summarizes the sequence each school typically asks families to complete, in order. Requirements differ by grade: assessments and recommendations are usually lighter at the earliest entry points and heavier at sixth and ninth grade. Mid-year transfers frequently follow an abbreviated version of the same sequence. See eligibility and enrollment steps school by school for the expanded version.

Sources and limits

Figures are compiled from each school’s published admissions information and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools assignment guidance, then cross-checked against routing from the gate. Nothing here is an official statement by any school or by CMS. Verify the current calendar with each admissions office, and verify assignment for a specific parcel with CMS before relying on it in a purchase decision.
